Election Day is Coming

With the 2016 election campaign winding down to the last days we are reminded of our right to voice our electoral vote. This year (like the last eight years) will forever be known as a historical. Without getting into the personal preferences of who I would prefer to be president of our nation, I'd like to remind each of you that Uber and WhyDriveCA is here for you.

Whether you're an Uber driver wanting to cast your vote or a voter needing a ride to the voting station - it's important. And WhyDriveCA is here for you.

2016 election

Tuesday, Nov 8

Polls are open 7 AM–8 PM

If you’re in line by 8 PM, you’re allowed to vote. Bring an accepted form of ID, if required. If you've voted in California before, you don't need to show ID. If you’re a first-time voter, registered by mail, and didn’t include your driver’s license number, California ID number, or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number on your registration, you need to include a copy of accepted ID with your mail-in ballot and you may be asked to provide ID if you vote in person.

Acceptable forms of ID include a current and valid photo ID that includes your name and photograph. Examples:

  • Driver's license or ID card of any state
  • Passport
  • Employee ID card

Hot off the Uber Presses

About a month (or so) ago, Uber implemented a change that all riders and drivers should be aware of.

Check it out...

*Captured from the Sacramento Uber Movement website.

What does this mean to everyone?

Well, if a passenger appears to be a minor and has no adult accompanying them - their ride can be cancelled.

A lot of passengers and drivers may not be aware of this latest change but WhyDriveCA is hoping to help you understand and be kept up to date with changes as they happen.

I'm sure there are people who won't like this change but looking at the bigger picture of it - it's in place to help protect our children. As a driver and a parent, I am all for the change. Even to the extent that I could lose out on the fare. I have transported teens (and one who was still in elementary school) who had no adult companion present. I was nervous about these riders and with the youngest one, I was beyond concerned for their safety and lack of parental/guardian presence.

I've already experienced not so happy teens that I've refused rides to as well as teens and adults alike who appreciated the "good looking out" for them. I truly think this is a win/win - even if it makes life a little inconvenient.

What are your thoughts on this matter? Feel free to comment and share todays post.

Hello Readers...I've Got A Question For You

Want to pick up some extra money with little to no effort? Read on to find out how...

We're all looking for ways to make our lives easier and less complicated. One such way is trying to find some extra money to help ends meet or to save up for specific occasions in our lives.

I'd like to suggest giving Uber a try. Uber is worldwide and although we cannot honestly say it is EVERYWHERE...Uber is constantly expanding its' coverage. So theoretically speaking, there is little to no reason that an avid blog reader (thank you for keeping up with me) couldn't drive for Uber. And if Uber isn't in your area, reach out and ask why. Who knows, your question could spark the next expansion.

The Pros...

  • Flexibility
All Uber requires is one completed ride within a thirty day period. Easy Peezy. I can report that even with working a part time schedule, the rides add up and you'd be surprised to how many you will have in a short amount of time.
  • No Boss to Answer to
If you decide to take a day off or you want to change your time to work, you don't have to worry about the boss getting on your case. (Unless you like arguing with yourself. LOL)
  • Pay
You can be paid weekly or daily. The choice is completely yours. Your income is within your control (based on your devotion to driving) and even small/short runs add up. The key to it is finding your niche. Once you've got that figured out, the rest falls into place.
  • Socializing
You have the chance to meet a lot of great people who you may otherwise never meet. They all have stories to tell and come from every walk of life imagineable. You never know who might slip into your car. (That's the adventure of driving for Uber.)
  • Driver Support
Uber not only advocates for the Rider but also the Driver. However a circumstance may fall, Uber is there to make sure you (as a driver) are supported.

The Cons...

  • Self Scheduling
If you're the procrastinating type of person, this might be a challenge for you.
  • No Buffer
Sometimes you may get a passenger who you can't wait to get out of your car. But if you have the fortitude to press through, you have recourse available to you, (See Driver Support above.).

I'm pretty sure that others could add to my lists of Pros and Cons but that would make for a lengthy blog post and I'm not here to bore you to tears. Just know that this is a great opportunity that doesn't require being a rocket scientist or any major degrees for an Ivy League education.

All you need to become an Uber driver is the desire to make money and meet new people, a new(er) model car (2006 and newer), full coverage insurance and pass the required background check.

Interested? AWESOME!!! Take this referral code and lets get you started today!

Now You Know...

Anyone who has kept up with me or happens to know me personally - knows that I am all about the music and showing support.

I've got a treat for you with this one.

He's a hip kat who knows how to catch your attention with his beats, pull you into them and while he's got you there, he's not only gonna entertain you but lyrically stroke your cerebral with some original work. And most important - He's a local artist! Take a listen, like what you hear (you will, trust me.) and show your support. He's on Google Play, iTunes, Facebook and Twitter - and of course, he's bumpin, in my car. Check him out!

School's Out - Let The Games Begin - Rain Or Shine!!!!

Yesterday (and the prior weeks) its' been about the grads, tomorrow is all about Dad! But today - its' all about the kiddos!!!!

Fairytale Town and the Sacramento Play Coalition have come together to present to you...

Pop Up Adventure Play Day

Admission is FREE

Date: TODAY
Time: 11am - 3pm

Place: Maple Neighborhood Center located at 3301 37th Avenue here in Sacramento. Future home of the Sacramento Adventure Playground.

The Pop-Up Adventure Playground is based on the concept of Adventure Playgrounds in Europe. After World War II, landscape and playground architects noticed that children spent more time playing in the war rubble than they did in structured playgrounds. They observed that children were more engaged in play in spaces they created themselves and thought that these non-traditional environments inspired imaginative, collaborate and thoughtful play. - Excerpt from fairytaletown.org

Grab up your little ones and come out for a memories making day!

This is NOT a "dress to impress" event, so put on the comfy gear and wear your closed toed shoes as things are going to be messy!

Also - they are in need of some recyclable materials, household items and (literally) nature's toys such as sticks, twigs and the likes. There is plenty more they could donated but to get the specifics, give Kathy Fleming a call at (916) 808-7060 to find out exactly what is needed. Your clean (and safe) items can also be brought on the day of the event.

Make It Do What It Do...

Have you ever considered or at least thought about having your own business, setting your own hours and being your own bossy boss????

What if I told you that you could do all of that and keep your safety net of the current job you have?

mmmhmmm... yup you can!

Being a partner with Uber (also known as an independent driver) gives you the flexibility to work when you want to work, meet a wide variety of interesting people and get paid for something you already know how to do - driving.

I didn't forget the ones who either don't have a safety net in place or they are the bold ones and want to cut the ropes and fly free. Yes Dorothy, you too can do this gig too!!!!

It's truly based on what you want from your Uber experience. Work a little, work a lot - it's all up to you!

There are other incentives from Uber that help you build your business. Such as (but not limited to) Partner Discounts on gas, auto maintenance, phone plans, personal health insurance and more. And did I mention that you will meet a wide variety of people?! Ohhhhhh and before I forget, Uber is International - so for my readers from another continent (Yes I see you out there, and thank you for visiting.) YOU TOO can become an Uber driver.

The BEST part...
If you find that this isn't for you. There's no pressure to continue doing something that makes you miserable. Just deactivate your account.

OK, so you're probably thinking...
What's the catch?!

Here it is. WHAT IS REQUIRED TO DRIVE WITH UBER?

  • You need to be at least 21 years old, have a clean driving record, and must pass a background check.
  • Your vehicle can't be older than 2006, be in great condition and has at least 4-doors. (Uber can help you get a leased car if you don't have a qualifying vehicle.)
  • You will need to either have an iPhone 4s (or newer) or an Android 2013 or newer. (No phone? Uber can help you with that too!)

Soooooo, wha'cha waitin for???? Make it do what it do, baby! (Click the links for more information.)

Remember Those Who Served...Not Just Today But Always

As this long holiday weekend unwinds, we find ourselves instantly thrusted into warmer weather, (more) graduations, June weddings and summer vacations, (just to name a few).

Why not let WhyDriveCA take care of the hassle of driving? Whether its just a quick trip a few blocks away or a road trip within the state, WhyDriveCA can get you there safe and worry free. We can't do anything about the stress levels regarding the outing itself but we can definitely take the pressure off the drive.

Hit me up when you're ready to sit back, take in the scenery and let me take you there... By telephone/text: 916-790-3717, by email: WhyDriveCA, on Twitter: @ca_whydrive or on Facebook: WhyDriveCA.

So Many Shindigs... So Little Time!

Hey there! Memorial weekend is upon us y'all - and you know what that means... BBQ, family gatherings, sports, and most importantly remembrance for those who have fallen.

However this year you could add a few more options to you holiday weekend:
Sacramento Music Festival also Sacramento County Fair
Fri, May 27, all day                         Fri, May 27, all day
Sat, May 28, all day                        Sat, May 28, all day
Sun, May 29, all day                       Sun, May 29, all day
Mon, May 30, all day                      Mon, May 30, all day

And then there is the BottleRock 2016 happening in Napa as well. Who doesn't love food, music, wine, and live demonstrations?!  Now if you are planning on attending this event there are a few things you should know.... for instance some streets are blocked off and if you are planning on celebrating responsibly by getting an Uber there is a certain drop off and pick up location that the city of Napa has chosen for safety/efficiency that I'd like to share with you below.

Lastly there is the Music of Motown Dance Class that I'd like to talk about. Who doesn't want to take it back a little, to a time of good clean dancing fun? Well it's on - May 27, 2016 between 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. There will be a MOTOWN Musical Theatre Dance Workshop that will focus on dance and integrating voice and acting into dancing. The 90 minute workshop is being taught by Robert Hartwell, a member of the MOTOWN company. If you're interested please check out more information here.

As you see this weekend is going to be packed! I for one am excited...

Airport Etiquette for an Uber Driver

Today's moment is brought to you by Uber. It's an explanation to why we (your Uber driver) have certain criteria to follow when picking and dropping you off at the Sacramento International Airport. This will be a lengthy post but one that will give full understanding to the very confusing topic of, "Why can't I?"

Sacramento International Airport (SMF)

DROP OFFS

All Uber vehicles are able to drop off passengers curbside at SMF outside the terminal doors.

PICK UPS

Below are details on where you can wait for Airport Requests and where to meet your rider at the SMF airport. Please read everything below because not following the guidelines below may result in you receiving a citation. Uber will not reimburse any citations received as a result of not following the guidelines explained below. Partners are required to pick riders up at specific zones at Terminals A & B. At Terminal A, passengers can be picked up at the West Curb at the Northwest corner of the terminal. At Terminal B, passengers can be picked up at the West Commercial Curb of the Arrivals gate.

TERMINAL A

TERMINAL B
CELL PHONE LOT

HOW YOUR PICK UP GETS ASSIGNED

Airport pick up requests can only be received if you are in the Airport First-In First-Out (FIFO) zone, see the shaded area in the image below. This zone includes an area south of I-5, west of SR-99 and east of the Sacramento River. Airport property is not part of the FIFO zone, and once you drive onto airport property, you will NOT be able to accept new rides. Keep in mind that there may be posted parking restrictions in certain areas. Obey posted parking restrictions. Uber will not reimburse any citations received while in a restricted parking area. Please note, if there are commercial vehicle restrictions posted, those restrictions apply to ALL Uber partners displaying the Uber "U" Tradedress or logged onto the Uber Partner app. These restrictions may apply in any of the areas within the FIFO zone. When you drive into the Airport FIFO zone (see map below), you will automatically be placed in line for the next airport request. The line is first-in, first-out. This means the person who has been waiting in the zone the longest will receive the next pick up request. Unlike regular requests, a request will go to the first partner in line, not the partner located closest to the request. As such, where you are waiting inside the FIFO zone does not affect your place in line. If you need to go offline or drive outside of the FIFO zone for any reason, please be aware that you will lose your spot in line. To be fair for all driver-partners, if you come back online or drive back into the waiting zone after leaving, you will be placed at the back of the line.&nbsp;<strong>If a rider cancels their trip, you will remain at the front of the line.

FIFO (First In, First Out) Waiting Area
* All information within the line breaks has been copied from the Sacramento Uber website.

Need to be picked up or dropped off at the airport? No worries! I can be where you need me to be, hit me up by telephone/text: 916-790-3717, by email: WhyDriveCA, on Twitter: @ca_whydrive or on Facebook: WhyDriveCA with the time and location. Let me get you there!

A Helping Hand...

In the time that I've been driving with Uber, I've gotten the opportunity to meet and converse with many different passengers. The meeting of new and sometimes very different people throughout my day has sparked many and wide ranges of conversation. But I'd like to focus on one of my passengers that I had the pleasure of driving for yesterday. They shared with me an organization that's geared towards serving women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

My conversation with this passenger left me feeling intrigued and helpful towards this movement. So much so that at the end of my day, I looked up it's website.

my-sisters-house.org

I found out so much more information on the site.... like for instance they have a coffee shop called My Sister's Cafe that helps the organization financially. So, I thought I'd share it with you all, here on my blog. If you like what this organization is working towards, help them and pass it along to the next individual...there's nothing wrong with a little helping hand in life.

Sharing is Caring Saturday

Are you needing new wheels?

Please indulge me while I share my happy moment with you. In the beginning of my Uber experience as an independent driver I found the need to get some new(er) wheels. (I have a 2005 PT Cruiser Convertible that missed the criteria by two additional doors and one year.) In shopping around I found Nissan of Sacramento's website. It was easy to navigate through and I quickly narrowed my search to a car they had listed. I sent a message, asking to see the car the following day and was contacted by one of their awesome sales team members - Jason Su. He confirmed the appointment and the end result is my testimony (below) to a great car buying experience.

Nissan of Sacramento has THE PERFECT salesman - Mr. Jason Su!!! Not only was he easy to talk with, he listened and helped me obtain the best car for me. I walked in with the intention of obtaining a car and with his help I didn't leave without "the RIGHT car for me". He went beyond what I expected and his thoughtfulness regarding my concerns and needs surpasses a mere A+ rating. What ever the rating score is for a perfect experience, multiply that by 1000% (Yes, one thousand percent.)!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU - Jason!!!!!

If you find that you're in the market for a new (or new to you) car, check out Jason Su at Nissan of Sacramento. Make sure to tell him that WhyDriveCA sen'cha!
