Cinco de Mayo (pronounced: [ˈsiŋko ðe ˈmaʝo]; Spanish for "May 5th", or literally, "Fifth of May") is a celebration held onMay 5. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.[1][2] In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken to be Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.
And in some part of the gregorian calendar system, today must have been a Friday. A lot of people were hustling through the day, to punch that time clock and get their party started. The hot spot tonight (at least from this Uber driver's perspective) was Zocalo in Midtown on Capitol Ave. and 18th.
Each time I delivered a passenger, there was a line (that wrapped around the corner) eagerly waiting to get inside. As always, there is a valet service and I'm sure the tequila is still pouring strong even at this hour.
I wonder how many people will declare this a three day weekend after partying tonight...
